Installed a new packet April 15. Opened hive April 26 to check. Queen was stuck in her cage. Nurses got out but was a piece of cork partially blocking the exit and the queen could not get out. I was too slow checking in on the new packet.

She looked fine when I released her(April 26) and went about her business. New frames and foundation so the bees have lots of work to do and no new bees for what 21 days now?

I have another hive in its second year. Shall I take a frame of brood from this more established hive and swap it for an empty frame in the new hive?

    Any help would be appreciated.

If I was you I'd take brood from my established hive and swap it out with an empty frame. If your queen is gone, I'd make sure there are some 1-2 day old eggs in the frame of brood so they can raise a new queen.
