Hi,
I just installed my bees over the weekend. I used the no-shake method which went amazingly well. I popped the corks on the queens and push in marshmallow and am waiting a few days for the queen to be released.
I noticed today a few ants crawling on the hives. As a precaution I propped hives up with cinnamon sticks. I am using sugar water to feed the bees until they settle in. But I plan not to use it after the first season. I am not using smoke at this point either as I have read smoke is found in honey from smokers.
The only thing on my mind is that the bees appear very calm with little activity. I am assuming the bees are prepping the hive.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mike. I am from Bowling Green, VA.
