Hello from Lorena, Texas, just south of Waco! I just ordered my bees and hives this week and can't wait to get started. I was always intrigued by my grandmother's hive and want to enhance my garden, so I thought I would give this a shot. I'm sure I will learn a lot from this forum. We took an introductory class last year. We also signed up for the course given by http://www.centraltexasbeekeepers.org/ and are looking forward to that. We should have our bees two weeks after the course. What really got me kicked off onto this new path is making a batch of prickly pear mead in December. I used 24 lbs of local wildflower honey and 7 lbs of prickly pear fruit. It is very tasty even as young as it is. Next year I want to make a batch using my own honey. How cool would that bee???
