On Nov. 30th the temperature reached near 70 degrees. I seized the opportunity to inspect my backyard hives for food stores, etc. One hive has been plagued by small hive beetle all summer. To my surprise, I saw 4 or 5 small hive beetles during this inspection. I was under the assumption that they did not over winter in the hive. Am I wrong? We have had night time temperatures drop well below freezing this fall. Day time temperatures have rebounded to above freezing. Does anyone know if they will over winter in the hive?

As I understand it they will overwinter right in the cluster with your bees.

Yes they will over winter in the hive. They will also fly with a swarm, have seen them on a new swarm with no other hives around that I could find.
