I have several nucs that have filled all 5 deeps and I also gave them a medium nuc of stores on top. The fall flow is on really heavy here as I can see the bees tripping over each other trying to get in the hives (reminds me of Spring ). I worry they will run out of room.

I am inclined to give them another deep nuc box full of frames but if I do that will they use up all those stores to draw comb and then when the flow shuts down they won't have enough for winter? Is that how it works?

    Thanks,

    Ed

5 deeps high.... oh my gosh my back just went to hurting.

guessing for sure.... but I would guess that there is a good bit of empty space at the bottom of the stack and the bees are now backfilling some of this room.

I would likely have removed at least some of the honey (oh my gosh there goes the back again) and then replaced a box or so of empties back. here a full inspection would be necessary for anything of that size (did I mention this thread is making my back hurt?) to make certain that the bottom box(s) is not empty.

another take on an inspection of 5 deep hives...
often times in doing a total inspection on hives of this size tipping the stack over on it's front or back and doing the inspection and the reassembly from bottom up is much easier for me. give it a try sometime...

I think he means 1 deep with 5 frames, not 5 deeps. Slight difference in weight.

Are you planing on wintering them in Nuc boxes?? If not then why
not get time into a 8 frame or 10 frame?

I want to winter these nucs in the current boxes. They are 2 deep nucs with a medium nuc on top.
