Had a call at dusk today. Swarm on the ground. When I got there, they said they had been there since the 20th. 11 days on the ground. It was still a good 3 lb. of bees. I set the box down at the edge of the swarm and they began the march. I loaded the box at 10:15 and headed home. First swarm I have ever caught at night, and surely the first I have ever heard of staying in the middle of a well manicured yard for 11 days. I will check in 3 or 4 days for eggs. If I find them, it will be a total surprise. I expect them to be queenless.

That's what I am thinking. :?
I have no answers for the other questions. Totally unbelievable for me.

Hobie, the bees were under heavy shade. Very little grass growth.
Also, well manicured in the north may be far removed from well manicured in the south.
