Thought I'd pass this on.... Ed

If you start with a cage containing five monkeys and inside the cage, hang a banana on a string from the top and then you place a set of stairs under the banana, before long a monkey will go to the stairs and climb toward the banana.

As soon as he touches the stairs, you spray all the other monkeys with cold water. After a while another monkey makes an attempt with same result ... all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put the cold water away. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and attempts to climb the stairs. To his shock, all of the other monkeys beat the crap out of him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys, replacing it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment... with enthusiasm.

Then, replace a third original monkey with a new one, followed by a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him up have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs. Neither do they know why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

Finally, having replaced all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys will have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, none of the monkeys will try to climb the stairway for the banana.

Why, you ask? Because in their minds... that is the way it has always been!

This, my friends, is how Congress operates... and is why, from time to time, all of the monkeys need to be REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME!

But, will it still be that way if it is found that the monkey's iqs are much higher than the congress members??

We get what we deserve, for the most part, due to low voter turnouts and with fictional entities, organizations or corporations, that may not vote, but can contribute unlimited cash, thanks to a recent Supreme Court's (errant) ruling.

The power of the lobby, funded with corporate cash, had its effect on the one regulation that protected us got repealed: The Glass–Steagall Act, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass-Steagall_Act (thanks alot, President Bill, but noble of you to apologize and admit your error).

We only have offensive politics or state santioned pain, look at China (PRC) for example. The world is full of liars or thieves, that is the 'norm,' but isn't it grand to see a kind, honest, and courgeous person, from time to time?

I am grateful for our "offensive" politics. Unoffensive politics are only to be seen in idealists' delusional wishful thinking minds.

I thought we could use a little humor at this point. ;)

i must say I do like how beehalo thinks...

;) who cares what any of the individuals commenting here think. they are not corporation and will not dump any cash in any politicians lap, so why should they matter?

we are all just peons of the corporate state.

most all things related to human nature is not linear nor totally logical in nature. there are in fact lots of twist and turns in the world of life and politics.

    in the swamp writes:
    REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME!

    tecumseh:
sounds good, but I suspect this would not be such a great idea if you actually tried to enforce this rule. why not just replace those that do not have actual real people's interest at the front side of their agenda sheet.

I'd hate to think someone would call Gabriel Giffords a liar and a thief. I certainly wouldn't classify my Senators and Representitives that way. Disrespecting those who work on our behalf, such as they do, is poor behavior and is childish behavior.

Sit back, throw stones and gripe about things or get off your butts and send your representitives a letter. Get to know them. Get them to know you. There are only three people you have to correspond w/, your House Representitive, do you know who that person is?, and your two Senators.

You are sitting at a computer right now. Look up the means to send them an e-mail and do so regularly and before you know it they will be calling you.

Go meet them when they are in your area. Take a vacation to the Nations' Capital and drop in on them. There's a lot to see in and around DC. Walter Reed is no longer there, but The National Cemetery is. How many of y'all have seen in person JFKs' grave or seen the changing of the Gaurd at the Tomb of the Unknowns or been to Plot 64, where many of our Iraq and Afghanistan Marines and Soldiers are buried.

Complaining about those elected to office in Washington is easy. Do the hard thing and make your voice count.

Not that I am any better than any of you. But I don't gripe.

Now those are all kick-arse good observations in gereral and spot on specifically about the courgeous Honorable Gabriel Giffords, who seem to be a honest, smart, and hardworking public servant.

It's grand to see someone like Gabbie in action, who also shares many views, including respect for firearms ownership.

I had a very long response typed out. But I decided I'm not going to clutter up this great forum with non-bee related, controversial stuff.
