SIXTH ANNUAL PICNIC FOR BEEKEEPERS

Shawn Moyer/Oxbow Apiaries and Mike Thomas/Bjorn Apiaries will again host a picnic for beekeepers.

Date: Saturday, July 18, 2009 starting around noon. Lasting all day.
Place: Bjorn Apiaries at Honeycomb Farm. 180 Century Lane, Dillsburg, 17019. This is a farm with a big silo located next to the Franklin township park/municipal building. 2 miles south of Dillsburg off route 15.

Planning on door prizes, entertainment of some sort, and plenty of good food and bee tall tales.

We will have the nuc yard and honey house open. Side by side comparison of Italian, Russians, and Carniolan hives will be available. This picnic will be at a working apiary location. We have a new Warre Hive on display for this year, as well as the other educational hives including TBH (Top Bar Hives), Two Queen Tower systems, etc.

Please RSVP with number attending. We are asking that each family bring a covered dish, and a favorite chair. Please bring a bee veil if you want to open a few hives while your at the picnic.

If you attended in the past, we want to challenge you to invite another beekeeper to join us. We want to make this the best picnic by having a good turnout. Everyone is invited.

Pictures to follow...... ;)

Not sure if everyone signed in, but we have 118 on the sign-in sheet. Not that numbers mean much, or as much as who attended does, but what a great turnout. Scavenger hunts, water balloon toss games, and cases of mead brought in........ :D Many first year beekeepers. And many had a glimpse at a Warre hive for the first time. A really great time.
Thank you to all who attended and contributed.
