For those that have been following my posts. I have my carnies in an african brood box with african comb, it was a complete mess, half built comb, double built frames, built down to the bottom board, anything you can imagine. I added a super in October and harvested it in November. Today I went in wanting to replace 1 frame with foundation in the brood to start tidying it up with my EU foundation. When I opened my hive I couldn't get a frame out cos of the mess. Due to this I ended up moving all the frames around. I left the neatest of the frames with brood in the bottom with blank frames with foundation between them i.e. honey, brood, foundation, brood, brood, foundation, brood, foundation. honey, foundation ( something like that I didn't check exactly). I then placed another brood box on top and put the frames I took from the bottom up there, about 4 frames as there was some uncapped brood in them. I think there were 4 frames. The rest of the the second brood chamber I left empty for another day and placed the super on top. Im hoping my queen survived the shuffle and that they will draw the new frames out and then I can replace some more old frames with foundation when removing the other old frames. I think l will fill the second brood chamber with foundation frames in a few days time when they have calmed down a bit. What do you guys think? Have I ruined my hive or may it work? Any ideas?
