    Something I Hadn't Seen Before

Today I was adding supers to a couple of hives. When working on the first hive I heard the unmistakable sound of a swarm overhead. I looked around and they had a nice softball sized ball formed in the cedar. I could tell they were coming from the topbar. I kept looking through a couple of other hives and before I got through, the bees were going back into the topbar. I thought they had done the same thing this spring in a lang, but wasn't sure. This time I saw it for real. I guess it was a practice run because this evening they left for good.
