I have coarse burlap pillows filled with planer shavings in a honey super to top off my hives. Had a peak in today about 4 degrees below freezing and the pillows were damp but no dripping. A few bees were up working the caked sugar mountain camp style on top of the frames. I sure wish they would not be doing as much flying out and snowshoeing around. Many are not makeing it back inside. I sure hope that they have started brood rearing and are replacing the ones that are going walkabout! Will have to wait till things warm up quite a bit before I can get in and see what shape they are in. Hives are snowed in enough that I cant tip them to see how heavy they are but two went into winter around 150 gross weight and one around 120 pounds. I hate just waiting and not knowing!
