In my top bar hive, I have a screened bottom board that can be closed off during the cold months here. I have bee killing at least 5-6 SHB in this area since the hive started.
I went back through this forum and found that Mama Beek had used ashes to slow them down. I started using ashes under the hive about a month ago and since then have seen no beetles in this hive.
I opened them up this afternoon and found no beetles and no larvae. If this is what has stopped them, A BIG Thanks goes out to her. I put ashes around the rest of the hives and we will see what happens.
The lang hive had no ashes around it and I have been killing beetles every time I opened it up. Now it does have ashes around it.
