Today I picked my first Shiitaki mushroom. Two years ago in February I inoculated some logs and stacked around leaning up against trees near my bee yard, now the trees are surrounded with a fence to keep the black copper moran chickens confined to one area. While gathering eggs I noticed some mushrooms growing on the logs, one of the mushrooms was big enough to pick and I was as proud as could be. Tomorrow morning it will be a Shiitaki omelet for my power breakfast. There are a lot of small ones so it is a success in my eyes. The simple pleasures of life.

I love growing mushrooms. (Just not enough time for so many hobbies!)

I have tissue cultures and/or spore prints for several types of Oyster mushrooms, two species of Ganoderma (dried tissue) and a few others.
I have fruited Oysters in the past.

    Fascinating stuff!

    Have you read Paul Stamets?

We've got an oyster mushroom log, and I plan to get some more different plugs this year. Love it.
