Should they have a cranky buzz to them?

Our sole survivors, so far (knock on wood), were out today, for the first time since, probably late November, but boy did they have a cranky buzz to them, more like an attack buzz, then their normal happy buzz. Is this normal?

when our girls are out and about in the winter season they always sound a little bit cranky to me, kinda like they are grumbling about the ugly way nature has set them up. I don't really blame the poor things either!
