Yesterday I pulled out the SBB tray to take a look. I found the usual lines of capping debris, and right in the middle of these lines, a small pool of water, maybe 1" in diameter. Any idea where this may have come from, or if there is anything I may need to do about it?

Hive is 1 deep + 1 shallow. Went into winter on the small side, but packed pretty full of honey. I wrap with tar paper, so the tray area is protected from blowing snow. It's been too cold here to risk a peek under the lid.

That's a good possibility. Well, I can't tell the bees to stop breathing, I guess. I have the ~3" bottom opening and the inner cover slot for ventilation. Can't remember if I left the cover shimmed on that one or not. Perhaps I should not have closed off the SBB...?
