A week ago I picked up a swarm. Today the property owner called and said that there was still group of bees about the size of your fist hangin on the spot from which the swarm was picked up last week...straglers that were out when I took the swarm...only to return to find their sister gone! Being a week later, I didn't want to just dump them into the hive with the other bee's. So...I took out a couple of frames from the hive...shook them off onto a sheet in front of the hive...them shook the little swarm from today on the sheet with them. They all walked in together...slick as a whistle!
Last year I tried this, but forgot to shake a few frames first...disasterous result...fighting...and lots of dead bees. What a different a few shakes makes when combining a swarm with a hive! Great way to boost a week hive, in my opinion.
