I have posted several times that I have one hive of bees that is much hotter than the other hives. I've had bees less than two years, and I do not have a mentor or any other experienced beekeeper to assist me. Yesterday, I had a telephone conversation with a fellow that has kept bees for the past 40 years. His bees are about 60 miles from my apiaries, but he is in the same type of country (dry, arid brush country). I told him about my hot hive and he suggested the following: Smoke the hive top and bottom every other day for a couple of weeks and the bees will get accustomed to the smoking and remain calm during inspections. This does not seem plausible to me, but it makes we wonder if anyone on the forum has ever used such an approach? If so, did it work?
