Our son starts the final challenge at bootcamp starting tomorrow he begins the crucible. at the end he will be pinned with the anchor and globe and for the first time be addressed as a Marine. This is a little poem for marine wifes I reworked for parents When you awake tomorrow to begin the crucible Hope you know we walked every step with you that was possible? When you humped all those miles over rough terrain, ... we hope you know we are by your side? When your rations were low and your belly was hungry, Did you know that we wish it wasn't you but instead it was us? When your feet ache and blistered from stress, Did you know that we will carrying you deep in our chest? When you were tired and sore and almost ready to fall, Did you realize we would have carried it all? When you had little sleep and your eyes were red, Did you know we would have offered you our bed? When you had to push and pull for that extra mile, Did you know that we was so proud and so tall, with such a big smile? When you went to bootcamp, we went to one too, It's the one where parents worry over all you go through. we couldn't eat dessert, knowing that you had no treats, we felt quilty for wanting to rest, when you had tired feet. we anguished over ever tough moment, we thought you had we cried when we missed you, we cried when we was sad we cried over your letters, that showed your love for us we cried over thinking about the day you would come home. we cringed if we thought someone was yelling at you Even though we knew it's what they had to do. we lost sleep just wondering how you are we prayed and thought and even wished upon a star. Now your almost through and soon you will be One of The Few The Proud, a New MARINE we get an Honor too for going through the bootcamp for parents we get to hug you and hold you in our arms we get to see how handsome you really are we get our bright shining star No we don't get a medal or a pin to wear we don't get to sport that awesome Marine Hair our reward is one that can't be seen It's called "Being the Parent of a U.S. Marine."
