I was just reading about splits thinking about next spring. I saw a question posted about when is too late to split and it got me thinking: So my hive a rolling along well now that I have a strong queen. She is looking good and laying very well and I'm seeing lots of eggs and brood. They are working on filling the second deep brood chamber and are about half way as I write this. I'd just like to maximize this first year as best I can since I'm not worried about honey production. Would it be a bad idea to try and do the split or should I see if I can go for deep number three on this hive and split next year?
