In about 4 weeks or so, one of my bee yards is going to be on a big sunflower flow. Somewhere along the line, I got it in my head that sunflower honey isn't very good. Is this true? Does anyone have any experience with sunflower honey? Thanks. Mike
Sunflower honey is just fine as far as flavor goes. The downside is that is crystallizes fast. Canola does this as well. Pull it soon after the flow. Good for creamed honey and those that like crystallized honey (I love it on warm buttered toast). On larger scales it makes for good bakery barrel honey.
hey sundance glad to see ya over here once in a while. Got to comment on the sunflower honey I second all of what sundance said. But got to add it is one of my favorite flavors. When you put the bees on sunflowers dont underestimate them. They will pack it in I can get sometimes over 4 mediums off one field on a single hive.
