This was a fun one. Aiden told all his kids in class about it. He was so excited. Thanks for letting us go with you. Thanks for the bees for Aiden as well.
    Great video by the way.

    Your camerman was awesome.

I can see it now. Medic hollers, " Hold my beer and watch this".

Hey, Medic, be sure one of your buddies knows to come to the forum and tell us what happened.

G3, I've given kids swarms. I'm gonna tell the members here the secret.

G3 was happier than Aiden, just watching his enjoyment. It puts you on top o' th' world to see a kid with his first bees.

I was about seven or eight when I was given my first bees, funny how things come back around. Aiden will make a good beek, he already knows more than most beginners and wants to help at every turn, very hands on for sure. How come you had to tell the secret anyhow

We had to leave one of the swarms, it was up too high for us to get with what we had.

The tree is right on the side of the road and actually on R/R property so that had to stay as well.

Thought about a trap out but there is just to much pedestrian traffic right there, especially the homeless. And the openings are about 10 foot off of the ground.

Thanks again for the call Ben!

G3 - watched few of your swarm videos on youtube. You said in one you smelled a strong smell of lemon....? Is that the smell of a "swarming" pheromone? Very curious.
Also, you mentioned how the bees - once you placed them over the top of an emtpy super - started fanning. What does that mean? I thought they did that to either increase or decrease the temp of their hive?
Thank you! Great videos, commentary, special effects, and info!

When you put up a swarm the bees will raise their behinds up in the air and bend the tip end down just a little exposing a nasonov gland which emits a pheromone that smells like lemons and they fan their wings like crazy trying to blow it in the air to signal the masses where the queen is at.

Hard to tell from the video but if you look hard you might be able to see them with their tails in the air.

You might have heard of others and myself referring to lemongrass oil in swarm traps, this is to help coax them into at least investigating you bait hive.

Hope that answered your questions, if not ask more.
