I was out this afternoon on the carport and there is an oak tree about 10 feet from the house. I saw a lot of bees coming and going from this tree.

Got a ladder and went to check(hoping there was a swarm or hive), found that MY bees have found another source of water.
There is a fork in this tree where 5-6 branches go up and they have created a pocket about 6" deep and 5" in diameter. It was full of rainwater, as we have had about 4-5 inches in the last week. There were probably 30-40 bees lining this pocket and taking the water back across the house to the yard.

I have a pond not twenty feet from the hives and have found them drinking water from there before. Obviously the tree has better water or there is something leaching out of the tree into the water that they like.

I have provided clean sources of drinking water for my hives (early on) only to find them collecting water in the roadside ditches.
