Today was pretty cool. My mother has never seen a hive up close. So today she met me and we went out to check 4 hives. She was worried she would get stung so I let her wear my ventilated suit. Going through the hives 2 were doing well. These are all package bees. 2 hives I did not find the queen. Here's the breakdown. hive 1- Queen, Capped brood and all stages. Pollen, nectar and capped honey. One thing I found interesting was a lot of drones. hive 2- Queenless, dead bees on SBB, drone cells, very low capped brood, seen worker bees dipping their bottoms in cells hive 3- Queen, Capped brood of all stages. Pollen, nectar and capped honey. hive 4- Queenless, all drone cells, worker bees dipping bottoms in cells. I uncapped one brood cell and larva was not solid. Was slimy. Bee larva on SBB. What's going on!! I have 2 new queens arriving tomorrow and wondering if I should use them on these queenless hives.
