Hey All, I have a weak hive and have been wondering what was up. I noticed some sunken brownish/beigish brood on the frames among other brood and spotty pattern. Thanks to the internet, I have come up with varroa as the problem. I have ordered the Apivar that does not contaminate honey, but does anyone have any ideas on what I can do while I wait for delivery? I read some of the other posts on this site and I kinda like the one where I can dangle a spearmint soaked something in the brood nest. I already use a combo of lemongrass & spearmint in my syrup--it also keeps down the mold. We are getting ready to hit our fall honey flow, so I don't want to feed syrup. I've been taking honey from the other hives and feeding that to keep them alive. They have one frame of uncapped honey right now, so I know they're ok for food. I don't have the courage for the sugar shake and I already know it's a varroa problem. Anyone with any ideas? Anyone got any Apivar, live in central Florida and want to sell it to me? Gary?
