What are they working?

    What are they working now? All 3 locations that we have smell like softened butter. Goldenrod is in bloom here, but I thought that smelled nasty? These all smell almost like a bakery? Confused?

    In my area they are on the Aster and Beefsteak plant (a mint), the goldenrod is going to seed here, but you rarely see honey bees on it here. Jack

    A bakery? Like a yeast smell? Could be just that. Fermenting honey in the hive? Have you looked inside? How's the honey look?

    It may just be a matter of opinion. I don't think the goldenrod honey smell is nasty at all... I like it!

    I often think a heavily brooding hive has a bit of a yeasty smell. I wish I could bottle that smell.
