I had been observing pollinators for several seasons before I brought bees here and saw quite a few flies that were bee imitators working the flowers. Really, even with hive right in my own yard there are fewer of them working the local flowers than other insects. Perhaps there is some instinct not to forage close to the hives where they poop.
