I just got through working on my truck this morning, when the wife came out and said the bees were all over above the hives.Sure enough walked back and they had already begun to cluster in an oak tree, about 20 ft' up.

So why should I leave the house to catch swarms and cutouts? This were the bees I caught on on first cutout back in May.I noticed last week when inspecting them there were a half dozen capped queen cells on the face of the comb and on the bottom bars. You can see the cluster starting to form at the top of pic 2 just to the left of center.

I have 2 problems though I don't have enough frames built and the second problem I have is it's getting ready to really pour rain, storms are coming in fast from the west. :dontknow:

!0 min. later they've all landed in the next pic.

Once clustered, they will spread their wings and shed the water. You can catch them after the sun comes back out. It will give you time to get your box ready.

Of course, they could have already chosen their new home, so it's never a sure thing.

Got the box ready, but have to put the 12 ft. ladder in the truck bed to reach them.Already started build frames.A nuc should be fine for now, shouldn't it?

It's raining pretty hard right now so we see how it goes when and if the rain stops.

Thanks as always for the advice Iddee.

A nuc should do as long as they can all fit inside. I can't tell how big the swarm is.

Set the nuc as high in the tree as you can and leave it. Then HOPE!
Preferably with some drawn comb in it.

that's exactly what I did Iddee, had some clean comb left over from the last 2 cutouts and also used some lemon grass oil and the ball is getting quite a bit smaller when I just looked a few minutes ago.

    Got em"

They say if you walk away from a problem and even sleep on it,the solution will come to you.

Yesterday I didn't think to use the trusty bee vac with a long piece of PVC pipe to reach them.

Why stop you when you're having such great fun?
Swarms are the "funnest" part of beekeeping :Dancing:
