Making a top bar hive as you may know from all my posts, just trying to get the most help i can. What should i make it out of...it seems that pine would be easy to obtain, but what about finishing the hive? What can i put on it to protect it and keep the bees around, becuase i read that some paint can scare them away. Thanks

Latex or oil base is fine. Just give it a few days to cure and it'll be no problem.

Just don't paint the inside. If you are looking for cheap paint check out the miss mixed colors, they are usually on sale.
