Wife and I took the opportunity to visit the Cameron Park Zoo in Waco today.

We met Ethyl, a 2 year old white rhino.

She seemed to enjoy us patting her butt...nothing else need be said  Bet we're the only people on our block that patted a rhino butt today.

Then we met Tanya, the elephant. She played the harmonica and drum for us.

Next was Tembo, the elephant. She showed us how she gets her feet checked,

and then how she checks for her keeper.

Finally she painted a picture for us

All in all, a pleasant day at the zoo.

I may have to go down to Waco to see a zoo. Fort Worth's isn't nearly as "hands on".

We had arranged the elephant visit as part of our membership benefits...never expected to get a painting...of course the keeper never expected to get painted. The elephant was "showing off" and missed the canvas several times.

Normally though, the zoo personnel are always going out of their way to answer questions and explain about the animals.

How many people can say that they have patted a rhino on the butt?!! You are in an elite group Walt.

I think it's Texas. When we first moved here (1996), we stumbled across the opportunity to have our picture taken with a kitty on our laps:

Shortly after that my wife had the chance for another photo:

Stuff just presents itself to us

Tombo's painting style is a bit abstract, but her handwriting/signature is something to be envied. :rolling:
I guess we can learn from you that, as beekeepers age and their manual dexterity declines, they can graduate to larger representatives of the animal world and still keep a hold on things. Rhino butt and elephant trunk for two examples. :rotfl:
