At our meeting last night a club member told us about being fined $60 by the municipality (around 2000 people) he lives in for selling honey without charging sales tax. The fine was an estimation of what he should have charged from the sales he had made over the season.
He called our club president and they contacted the state inspector and he told them he would take care of it. He quoted an Alabama law that allows any farm product to be sold by an individual without having to add sales tax to the purchase. He contacted the mayor and long story short, the club member got his money back but no apology.
Our secretary is going to post that law to our website for future reference if needed. Anyone ever have a similar problem?
